Heating Options

Introduction

Living in a warm, comfortable home is important to our health.  Tokoroa in winter is cold and we need to heat our homes somehow.  Cold, damp homes can cause health problems especially for small children, the elderly and people already living with problems like asthma.

In Tokoroa, the most common type of heating is wood burners.  Wood burners create unhealthy smoke - they are not the healthiest form of heating.

Can we do anything to help?  Yes.  = be aware of what you burn.

What we burn affects the air ------ the air we breathe affects our health…

What Do We Need To Do About This?

We all need to take responsibility for what we burn and how we heat our homes.  Ideally we should shift from wood burners to cleaner and better systems like heat pumps, electric pumps, gas or even pellet burners.

Can everyone install a new system?  No.

The Options

Council will soon have available a table that looks at the various types of home heating, the capital costs, the running or maintenance costs, the best option for a typical size house in Tokoroa, the advantages and disadvantages of the systems, and who to talk to for more information about the individual systems.  AVAILABLE SOON.
